What is a Mommy Makeover?
Has your skin been stretched and lost its elasticity on your breasts, tummy, buttocks, and/or thighs after having a baby? This is why we offer the mommy makeover at Chevray Plastic Surgery in Houston, TX. Just one pregnancy or multiple, it is often the rapid weight gain and subsequent loss that is responsible for sagging or loose skin – not to mention scarring and stretch marks. Our board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Pierre Chevray, regularly consults with women who have had a baby for a mommy makeover. Desiring to have their pre-pregnancy body back, these women are usually very excited to hear Dr. Chevray's recommendations for surgery.
We can all agree that childbirth is an amazing and miraculous moment in a woman’s life, and it is inevitable that having a baby will alter the look, shape, and size of various body parts. Does that describe you? With a mommy makeover, you can reclaim a youthful, slimmer, tighter figure with a tummy tuck, liposuction, breast augmentation with a lift, and thigh or butt lift. Your treatment is customized for your needs. We also can suggest nonsurgical procedures to enhance surface irregularities, such as hyperpigmentation from hormones and discoloration from the rapid stretching of the skin during pregnancy. Learn more about what a mommy makeover can do for you in a private consultation with Dr. Chevray at his office in Houston, TX.
"Dr Chevray did an amazing job on my abdominoplasty. I could not believe the difference it made, as I have been carrying around ‘extra’ tummy weight for years. Dr Chevray was a blessing to me. Also he has the best team with Patrick and Carol. They all treated me as if I was there one and only patient. It made me feel very special. Highly recommend Dr Chevray!"- M. / RealSelf / Mar 24, 2020

Can I have a mommy makeover?
Diet and exercise alone may not be enough for you to get your pre-baby body back. Candidates for a mommy makeover will have sagging skin on the breasts, abdomen, thighs, and/or buttocks. You may also have unwanted stretch marks and skin discoloration you did not have before getting pregnant.
We advise all our mommy makeover patients that childbearing needs to be completed before plastic surgery takes place. Weight gain and loss after a mommy makeover will distort your results. The goal of Dr. Chevray is to help you regain your pre-pregnancy figure so you can get back to living life with self-confidence and rejuvenated body parts and skin.
Our Mommy Makeover Techniques
The mommy makeover is a combination of plastic surgeries tailored for women by Dr. Chevray based on the areas of concern to be addressed. Many procedures can be paired together — the most popular treatments are breast lift, breast implants, tummy tuck, and liposuction. Mommy makeover surgeries are performed using general anesthesia, lasting 3 – 7 hours, depending on the number of surgeries. In addition, an overnight stay at the hospital may be needed. Your treatment plan might also include nonsurgical methods, such as a cosmetic injectable or an anti-aging treatment, to smooth facial wrinkles and reduce surface irregularities.
What to Expect
You’ll awake with bandages and dressings on your incisions, as well as temporary fluid drains beneath your skin. Dr. Chevray will provide you with very specific instructions for at-home care, which may include prescription medications. Once leaving the hospital, you will start your recovery at home with rest and proper aftercare. Walking upright may be hard the first week or so. You’ll need to avoid most physical activity in the first few weeks following your surgery. We will give you step-by-step at-home healing protocols to follow. Most women find the recovery phase can take about six months. Even though a recovery period of six months may seem long, you will not need to be away from work or normal activities for that whole time. Dr. Chevray will release you to go back to work and the gym when he feels you are ready.
In order to achieve successful results, you must be committed to a healthy lifestyle and a balanced diet to maintain your results. Keep in mind that body contouring results are visible immediately, but the final results can take a year or more to achieve. Dr. Chevray will take great measures to make sure you are recovering well in your follow-up appointments.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I decide what to include in my mommy makeover?
In your consultation with Dr. Chevray, he will listen to your concerns and goals before examining your body. Following this, he can give you recommendations on what to include in your mommy makeover. Typically, women include breast surgery (an augmentation, lift, or both) along with a tummy tuck and liposuction. Truly, these procedures are between you and Dr. Chevray. You may only want one or several, and he will talk you through the process and give you recommendations.
Will I have scars?
Although a mommy makeover gives you a rejuvenated figure, it does include some scarring. Dr. Chevray will create small, hidden incisions as much as possible. Most scars will be placed so they can be concealed while you are wearing a swimsuit or underwear. As part of your recovery instructions, Dr. Chevray or a member of his team will go over scar care to limit the visibility of your scars.
What if I get pregnant again?
You should postpone a mommy makeover until your family is completed so your surgical results are not compromised. In most cases, all treated areas of your body are at risk for changing if a subsequent pregnancy were to occur. If you get pregnant after your mommy makeover, another surgery may be done to refresh your results.
When can I have a mommy makeover?
You may be a candidate for a mommy makeover if you are finished losing weight and still have unsupported or sagging body parts. Generally, you must be a nonsmoker and relatively healthy to be eligible for our body contouring surgeries. Meet with Dr. Chevray to get the process started. He can be more specific as to what you need to make your procedures a success. We also want to ensure that you have realistic expectations of your final outcome. Mommy makeovers can provide you with a slimmer, perkier appearance, but only after the weight has stabilized. If weight loss continues after a mommy makeover, then additional sagging will develop. On the other hand, rapid weight gain can cause additional stretch marks, loose skin, and scarring.
