Breast cancer reconstruction with DIEP flaps & implants for BRCA1 in Houston, TX

This patient from Houston, Texas had inherited a BRCA1 gene mutation which caused her to have a very high risk for developing breast cancer. She chose to be treated with bilateral mastectomy to greatly reduce her risk of future breast cancer, and no longer require mammograms and breast MRI every 6 months. Her breasts were sagging (ptotic), so she had a breast lift (mastopexy) first, then bilateral nipple-sparing mastectomy and immediate breast reconstruction with DIEP tissue flaps. She subsequently had smooth silicone breast implants added to increase the size and improve the shape of her reconstructed breasts.
